Underground Grant Canyon
Located in the hinterland of Mount Yimeng and 8 kilometers southwest of Yishui County, Shandong Underground Grand Canyon Tourist Area is a national AAAA scenic spot. It is a unique kingdom of caves that feature distinctive interiors in the shape of a canyon, about 100 meters depth and walls that look like they were cut. The wide parts have enough room for carriages and horses to pass through while the narrow ones can only accommodate one person; Stalactites in various shapes form more than 100 landscapes such as “One River”, “Nine Springs”, “Nine Palaces”, “Twelve Waterfalls” and “Twelve Gorges”.
The underground rivers underneath the caves of the tourist area are more than 6,100 meters long. The drifting game developed with the flow of the underground rivers and the subtle exploitation of the caves’ resource advantages are the pioneering efforts of upgrading the tourism brand of the underground geological caves. It is more than 1,000 meters long and has been recognized as the “longest cave drifting” by Shanghai China Records Headquarters. In a drifting boat, tourists can well experience the depth, ups and downs, and thrills in the caves. Drifting in underground rivers fully presents the original wildness and caters to the consumption needs of tourists, thus it has been trusted and favored by them. Especially, during the first China Yishui Underground River Drifting Festival successfully held from July 25 to 27, 2008, we adhered to the market-oriented principle, improved the festival’s quality and added the festival connotation to it, creating the business card for the city and promoting the culture of the tourism industry. As held every two years, the "Underground River Drifting Festival" will become a tourism festival that matches the tourism industry and tourism culture with widespread influences at home and abroad.
